I am six

I would insist Mommy sit besides me
Not eating my breakfast until you talk to me
Mommy says no I have work then I would fuss
Leaving her kitchen mess Mommy would sit
I would talk about my dreams with smile and glint

Friends reminding the secret indentures
I am ready to begin day’s adventures
There are puppies out in the bush
won’t they love to sit in Mr. J’s shoes?

Team established, mission accomplished
Tired and hungry, let’s go home and get nourished
A book to read and a dash here and there with crayon
A sleepy afternoon with pink sheets to lay on

Papa is home and its evening time
For the first time in the day, sister and me chime
As going to the park is prime
We are back and lingering around
What is mommy cooking for dinner, thought profound

It’s my food favorite, I slurp and burp
Dropped the dishes and made a mess
Mommy was tired and I thought I could help
Almost in tears, I uttered a yelp

Soothe in Papa’s arms before he put me in bed
Papa reading a story and patting my head
Sound asleep and assured, I enter my fairyland

You get to be a 6-year-old kid again for one day and one day only — plan your perfect 24 hours. Where do you go, what do you do, and with whom?
